Millions welcome Year of the Ox

BEIJING, China (Reuters) — Hundreds of millions of Chinese welcomed the Year of the Ox on Sunday, packing temple fairs, setting off fireworks and firecrackers, and hurrying to train and bus stations to get home for the traditional holiday.

In Beijing and commercial capital Shanghai, normally busy streets were deserted in the morning, with only the odd firecracker going off, but both cities began to sound more like warzones as midnight approached, thanks to the Chinese passion for fireworks. Firecrackers are believed to scare off...
